The gorilla is one of protected species in the Kahuzi-Biega National Park (KBNP) and the flagship animal of this World Heritage Site.
We are working to protect the species in KBNP within the framework of the public-private partnership between the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
Kahuzi-Biega National Park is home to the Grauer’s Gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri), one of the African primate of the Hominidae family. It is endemic to the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is Critically Endangered. Most of the world's population of Grauer's gorillas make the KBNP their home.
